Toxics Reduction Program

  • Perform chemicals-use audits of hotels, restaurants, offices, other facilities applying for certification under the San Francisco Green Business Program; provide recommendations for less toxic options
  • Assisted SF Environment staff with the implementation of the City and County’s Precautionary Principle Ordinance. Assisted City staff with the development and application of Environmentally Preferable Purchasing criteria to the City’s purchase of goods and services
  • Technical research on a wide variety of toxics reduction issues including Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR), pesticide alternatives, regulation
  • Draft comment letters to state regulatory agencies (e.g., CARB regulation of perc in dry cleaning, formaldehyde emissions in building materials)
  • Technical assistance in support of a wet cleaning demonstration project
    Technical research in support of a study of residential used oil collection (May 2005-January 2006)
  • Planning and implementation of Precautionary Principle workshop and other activities around World Environment Day: Green Cities, hosted by San Francisco, June 2005
