MeetUp Event
The Promise of Perennials: Optimizing Perennial Feedstocks and Green Chemistry to Drawdown Carbon & Build Resilient, Regenerative Supply Chains
This event is FREE to attend and open to the public.
PRESENTER:
ANN BLAKE, Ph.D.

Dr. Ann Blake is an independent consultant with 26 years of experience finding safer alternatives to industrial chemicals and materials in global manufacturing. Dr. Blake is currently working at the intersection between climate adaptation, safer materials, and economic equity. She co-authored Perennial Industrial Crops: Green Chemistry and Carbon Sequestration (Handbook of Ecomaterials, 2019). Dr. Blake previously worked for the Cal/EPA’s Department of Toxic Substances Control as a hazardous waste inspector and Pollution Prevention Coordinator. She has a B.A. from Mount Holyoke College, and a Ph.D. in molecular genetics and neural development from the University of Oregon.
TOPIC:
As many of us know, it will take a multifaceted approach to drastically reduce CO2 within the next ten years. Join us as we explore one promising approach through perennial feed-stocks and Green Chemistry. Discover the many ways in which perennial industrial crops not only work to sequester carbon and restore soil organic matter but also how to employ them as a non-toxic, renewable feedstock source, replacing the need for fossil fuel feedstock. Feed-stocks are used in a variety of applications throughout the supply chain–packaging, dyes, sealants, surfactants, manufacturing lubricants, etc. How can Green Chemistry play a role in Drawdown? What is Green Chemistry? Connect the dots between perennial agriculture, Green Chemistry, bio-plastics, and packaging. Learn about potential areas within your own supply chain that could reduce the toxic burden of chemical and materials feed-stocks in favor of perennial feed-stocks that provide powerful ongoing carbon sequestration capacity, whose potential has not yet been realized.
