Dr. Ann Blake and Dr. Marty Mulvihill (Safer Made and Berkeley Center for Green Chemistry) have recently jointly presented on the challenges and opportunities around the growth of the bioplastics sector.

On February 28, 2019, Drs. Blake and Mulvihill joined Dr. Ramani Narayan of Michigan State University on a webinar hosted by the Collaborative for Health and the Environment, (CHE). This webinar, Bioplastics: Investigating Opportunities and Challenges, was the last of a four-part CHE series on Plastics and Health.

On September 13, 2019, Drs. Blake and Mulvihill presented at the Plastic Pollution Coalition’s Bay Area monthly lunch in Berkeley. Their presentation, titled “Bioplastics: Do you want to eat them?” covered what bioplastics are and aren’t, trends in the industry and the need for a comprehensive set of criteria to ensure bioplastics are actually safe and truly sustainable. A PDF of the slides is available here and SaferMade’s report on safer material opportunities in food packaging can also be found here.
