Analysis of the Issues Regarding Expanded Polystyrene Food Containers (EPSFC), August 2008

Conducted research into the manufacture, types and uses of polystyrene and their contribution to stream and stormwater litter and marine debris. Provided information on existing studies of the environmental impact and recycling rates of EPS as well as existing life cycle analyses (LCA) performed by industry and municipalities on several types of polystyrene and food containers made of alternative materials. Summarized state and local legislative and regulatory approaches to the reduction of polystyrene use and encouragement of the use of alternatives.
