The City of San Francisco’s implementation of its Precautionary Principle ordinance through purchasing choices and stakeholder participation is featured in a recent issue of Sustainability Science. The article, titled “Sustainability Science in Action: a review of the state of the field through case studies on disaster recovery, bioenergy and precautionary purchasing”, provides a summary of presentations and discussion at the 2012 International Conference on Sustainability Science at Arizona State University. The City of San Francisco’s efforts were presented by Dr. Ann Blake of EPHC and Dr. Chris Geiger of the San Francisco Department of Environment. Additional presentations at ICSS 2012 focused on reconstruction after the 2011 Tohoku earthquake and tsunami in Japan and the establishment of bio-energy infrastructure in rural Africa.
